Women in VR – a snapshot

Today, Anna Foka and I are going to be speaking at Craft Content Nashville about gender and sexuality in VR. We will live stream it here, if you want to follow along!

Game Theory at Friday Forum

Today during our Friday Forum I am going to speak about game theory from a sociological perspective. We are offering a course in it this summer too. We will start with a great introduction by Hank Green and the SciShow We will then discuss common uses of game theory, then develop our own game situation.

Twitter Scraping and Textometrica

I wanted to post a workflow-ish post about how I scrape twitter hashtags and then use textometrica to code them. To scrape twitter, I use TAGS, https://tags.hawksey.info/. It is a great google spreadsheet you can use to generate an excel file (you will have to clean it later). Conceptual Analysis:

VR as an empathy engine?

Today I am giving a talk at MTSU’s Walker Library about social issues in VR. Can VR act as an empathy engine for social issues? This talk is the kick off for a new research project about the stickiness factor of social issues in VR, specifically about domestic violence. What makes the empathy and short…

You’re not too n0ob to blog – nor too senior.

The author was talking to open source contributors, but I think the lesson is the same for anyone at a starting point in their career. Or a restarting point. For any big change, be it a new…

The VR experience

No whiteboard

I am a whiteboard and post-it note girl. Always have been. I don’t have a big whiteboard in my new house, so while writing the current article, I used windows instead. Worked quite well!

MTSU Talk

I’m taking about theoretical turns of identity at MTSU today. Here are the slides. Ingress does come into it, and now that I am back and over the horrible flu that turned into a bacterial infection, I will write more about recent findings. There have been interesting debates about the validity of portals, and what…

you know, for a blogger…

For someone who literally wrote a book on blogging, I sure have failed at blogging this project. That is mainly because the project was put on hold while I changed jobs, got established in my new community, and started playing hard. It has been such an adventure to meet new agents, make new friends, and…
